“When this pandemic started I struggled a bit to find inspiration to paint. Like I’m sure everyone else is finding, it has been difficult not to focus on the negative. When I finally got back into my studio I wanted to paint something related to the current times and if I could, help out in some way. The subject in this painting is my daughter-in-law, Dr. Nadia Salvo. She is a palliative care doctor. She has also been called upon to conduct Covid-19 testing and just recently found out she will be assigned to help out in long term care facilities. A few of Nadia’s colleagues have already tested positive. We worry about her, but certainly admire her bravery. I consider my painting ‘Thank you’ a tribute to all the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and all other front liners who are working so hard and risking their own health to help keep us safe. 
When I paint I strive to evoke emotion with my audience. I think I have done that with this painting. When I showed it to my neighbour she cried.”
